dla piper deferrals: when life gives you lemons…
Just a quick note. I saw on ATL that DLA Piper incoming associates have been asked to defer until January 2011. That is a serious lemon. As one deferred associate put it:
Thus, people are frantically trying to find work in this economy while studying for the bar – obviously many of the public interest jobs have been taken by other attorneys who were laid off or other graduates who were told that they would be deferred earlier this year.
However, that does not mean you can’t make lemonade out of the situation. Many fine organizations are still seeking volunteers… including TechSoup Global. We have 2 deferred associates, and have enough work for a third person who can commit to being here a year. (in other words, you need to have a big law firm stipend to be considered) So deferred DLA folks, if you end up wanting to find a position in public interest where you can serve the common good but get sophisticated international corporate and tax experience, drop us a resume at legalinternships [at] techsoupglobal [dot] org.
