Thomas Chow is a San Francisco based attorney specializing in complex business litigation, including real estate, intellectual property, securities, white collar, and products liability/toxic tort.  He also maintains a practice in international and domestic business transactions.  Mr. Chow enjoys working with both domestic and international clients.

Practice Areas

As a litigator, Mr. Chow’s experience includes handling all stages of civil litigation in both federal and state courts, as well as mediation, arbitration, and bankruptcy court practice.  In addition to business litigation, he has represented clients in matters involving intellectual property (copyright, trademark, trade secrets, patent licensing), real estate, securities fraud (plaintiff and defense), class action, antitrust, white collar crime, mass toxic tort, environmental, and products liability. M. Chow is admitted to practice in California and all federal district courts within the state.

Mr. Chow’s corporate experience includes counseling clients regarding international business transactions, corporate formation and entity selection, contractual agreements, and intellectual property licensing (inbound and outbound). He also has experience in general employment law, including employee handbooks, policies, and confidentiality agreements.  Mr. Chow has prosecuted trademark applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

During law school, Mr. Chow served as an extern law clerk to the Honorable Joyce L. Kennard, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of California, and the Honorable Patricia V. Trumbull, Chief Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court, Northern District of California.

Before practicing law, Mr. Chow worked as an IT Systems and Network Administrator for companies such as Earthlink, RCN, Community Health Center Network, and UC Berkeley. He retains an active interest in working with technology-based clients.

Education

Mr. Chow received his J.D. from UC Hastings College of the Law. While at Hastings, Mr. Chow served on the Hastings Race & Poverty Law Journal as Articles Editor and Staff Member, was a member of the Moot Court Board, Team Captain on a national moot court competition team, and served as the Head Teaching Assistant for Hastings Appellate Advocacy and Moot Court courses.

He received his B.A. in Sociology from UC Berkeley with honors. At Berkeley, Mr. Chow was nominated for the undergraduate citation award in Sociology (the top student in the major) and wrote an honor’s thesis regarding Asian American religiosity.

Professional Associations

Mr. Chow is a member of the San Francisco Bar Association Barrister’s Club and participated on the Judges Reception Committee for 3 years. He is also a member of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area, where he was Co-Chair of the Mentorship Committee for the past 4 years.
