Resume
I have posted my resume and job application materials here. It serves two purposes: (1) to validate my experience, and (2) for law students. I do a lot of career counseling for law students, so instead of having to email me for a copy, you can just download copies.

Dear Mr. Chow:
I noticed your profile on AVVO.COM. You may or may not have noticed that these people use totally arbitrary automated means to rank attorneys, without giving anyone a right to opt-out. In my case, they used inaccurate info and ignored all my experience even when I “claimed” my profile and added it, complete with publications, pro tem judge position, and 34 years of experience.
What I learned upon studying the site, is that thousands of lawyers got “10″ ratings by trading attorney endorsements. Apparently, real experience does not count, but trading recommendations satisfies their computer program. (Yes, this is all automated. They don’t review anything.) This really annoys me because this site (undeservedly) gets a LOT of hits and they get high search engine rankings. After I petitioned to the site to correct my 6.5 out of 10 rating they remained steadfast. My “experience” level is less apparently, than that of many attorneys with five years’ experience.
So noticed your profile and I think you are under-rated. I would like to endorse you. Please review my profile and tell me if you think I deserve your endorsement.

I am a senior student in the law School of Jilin University, a top five law school in China.
Interested in Public Interst Law;
ranking at least 1/3 in the law school, GPA overall:3.1;
Proficient in English(with a iBT score of 106);
Recenlty preparing for Bar Examination.
I just want to know how I can start my career in Public Interest Law after graduation.
Hi Nan,
I’d recommend that you speak to attorneys in China who are doing public interest law. The best way to learn is really to ask the people who are doing it now. (If you wanted to do public interest in America, that’s a whole different story… then I’d ask you to talk to me) On the whole, I recommend reaching out to (1) various NGOs/GONGOs in your region or the region you want to work with. These are the best way to get plugged in. (2) various public interest attorneys, of which there really are quite a few. They can give you tips or perhaps even help you find a job with one of them. That’s how I’d start my search preliminarily. If you have more details, let me know.
Tom
Thanks very much for your advice. I have been looking for internships but most renowned law firms focus on corporation laws, banking and financing laws and unfortunately, I did not find any NGOs and GONGOs provide internships for graduates or undergradutes.
You’re welcome. If you are able, I’d actually suggest that perhaps you can look for NGOs/GONGOs that you like and see if you can volunteer for them for free. I don’t know the sector in China nearly as well, but in the US, NGOs are always looking for volunteers.
Dear Tom,
I am a French journalist based in Beijing, about to write an article concerning chinese homeless. I was wondering if you had heard of ngos helping chinese homeless.
I browsed the internet but could just find the Renewal Center.
I thank you for your comprehension,
Kind regards,
